The College: Montreat College is a 4-year, Christian liberal arts college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to offer master’s, bachelor’s, and associate’s degrees. The main campus is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains fifteen miles east of Asheville, North Carolina, a region recognized as one of the most attractive living environments in the United States. Satellite campuses in Asheville, Charlotte, and other sites supplement the main campus. The College is is committed to Christ-centered teaching and learning, and is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. The B.S. in Outdoor Education combines elements of both adventure education and the environmental education into one unique program of study. It offers a strong emphasis in ecology, outdoor skills, and leadership training. Students will learn to teach outdoor skills, team building, leadership, and environmental awareness in the context of a wilderness setting and biblical world view. Through discussion-oriented classes and experience in the field, students will be able to design, implement and administer outdoor education programs that meet industry safety standards and are challenging, and enjoyable. The Outdoor Education program is distinctively Christian in its orientation. Classes are conducted with frequent reference and application made to one’s own personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
