The Nuhop Center, located next to the well known Mohican State Forest in Perrysville, Ohio, was originally started as a summer camp in 1974 for children with learning disabilities and behavior disorders. It has since evolved to include a spring and fall outdoor education program.
Nuhop’s outdoor education program provides a balance between experiential, outdoor and environmental education philosophies. We focus on academic and interpersonal skills in an outdoor classroom. Our curriculum covers a variety of subjects, including geology, ecology, survival skills and many more. We also utilize several challenge course activities, including a high ropes course.
Nuhop’s residential summer camp is designed for children with learning differences, attention deficit disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders and behavioral nuances. During our summer program counselors work in an intense, yet rewarding environment. Nuhop campers leave camp with a new sense of their abilities and self-worth, ready to face the everyday challenges of home, school, and beyond. Most Nuhop campers return for at least two years, and many for five or even ten years. Each year provides a new level of accomplishment therefore building confidence for those familiar with the program and new possibilities for success and friendship.
