MSCR’s Outdoor Programs specialize in empowering and facilitating individual and group transformation through experiential learning.

MSCR’s Outdoor Programs offer diverse programming for youth and adults including:

  • Outdoor Adventure Day Camps

    • Camp Tall Oaks: An outdoor adventure day camp for students in 4th – 6th grade
    • Camp Adventure: An outdoor adventure day camp for students in 6th – 8th grade
  • Team Building Programs
    • High Challenge Course
    • Two Low Challenge Courses
  • School Forest Programs- 300 plus acre forested property 
    • Environmental Education
    • Orienteering
    • Night hikes and Stargazing (including an observatory)
    • Overnight Camping 
  • Paddling Programs

    • Lakes and Rivers
  • High School Adventure Club
  • Mobile Outdoor Recreation Van 

MSCR Outdoor Programs works with school groups, afterschool groups, summer programs, and adult/corporate clients to serve diverse populations in the Madison Area. Over 15,00 people participated in a MSCR Outdoor Program in 2017. 

Outdoor Program Instructors are trained in group development and awareness, experiential and environmental education, group processing, and technical skills and safety procedures for the challenge courses and paddling programs. They come from a variety of different backgrounds ranging from professional rock climbing and paddling guides, school teachers, youth work, leadership development and organizational development. 

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD). MSCR develops and maintains the relationship between the Madison community and MMSD. To facilitate this connection, MSCR offers both school and community focused programming. The mission of MSCR is to enhance the quality of life for individuals in the Madison Metropolitan School District and for the community by providing recreation and enrichment opportunities year-round that are accessible to all.
