Outward Bound is a non-profit adventure-based educational organization with programs that deliver character development and self-discovery in the wilderness, in cities, and in schools. Outward Bound California (OBCA) operates programs in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sierra Nevada and Joshua Tree; the regional office is located in San Francisco.
Drawing on 50 years of experience in experiential education in the United States and through the incredible skill of our instructional staff, Outward Bound California changes lives through challenge and discovery. The center of Outward Bound’s educational philosophy is the belief that for young people to succeed, they need character growth and skills to assume leadership roles and take positive approaches to life’s challenges. By engaging students in demanding situations, often in unfamiliar environments, Outward Bound allows students to develop as leaders while also encouraging self-reliance, physical fitness, craftsmanship, service to those in need and the environment and, above all, compassion.
We value and seek a diverse range of field staff who are sincerely interested in the growth and development of others on a personal, group and larger societal level.
Our Instructors have extensive experience and training in interpersonal, technical, risk management, and educational skills. What we do is no less than life-changing for many of our students, and our instructional staff is the driving force behind this experience.
Our Logistics Team supports expeditions and programs from behind the scenes. Without Logistics Coordinators, our courses would not be possible. LC’s contribute to the student experience with strong operational, organizational, and communication skills.
Our Interns are excited and eager to contribute to OBCA’s mission, and receive training and development as they begin their careers in outdoor education. Gaining both field and logistical experience, Interns train to become Outward Bound Instructors and Logistics Coordinators.
