Company Description:
In our fifty-fourth year under the direction of the Shumlin family, with alumni in all 50 states and abroad, Putney Student Travel continues to provide unusual opportunities for small groups of high school students to share an exciting, educational summer. Putney offers five categories of programs: Cultural Exploration, Language Learning, Community Service, Global Awareness in Action, and Excel at Williams College, Amherst College, Oxford/Tuscany, Paris/Provence, Madrid/Barcelona, and Cuba. Every year we hire new staff for all of our programs and are always looking for enthusiastic leaders, teachers, and lovers of intercultural exchange.
Summer Trip Leader Job Description:
We seek qualified college graduates to co-lead groups of 16-18 high school students from the U.S. on high-quality, non-touristy Language Learning, Cultural Exploration, Community Service, and Global Awareness in Action programs.
Program areas include: Western and Eastern Europe, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Tanzania, Senegal, India, Nusa Penida/Bali, Thailand/Cambodia, and the United States. Fluency in the language(s) of the host countries is required. Specifically, we seek those who speak Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Czech, Polish, Hungarian, Thai, Hindi, Indonesian or Ki-Swahili. There are no foreign language requirements for trips to the Caribbean, or in the U.S.
You must be able to motivate and energize students in a wide range of situations and settings. Due to the high degree of independence and responsibility granted to leaders, successful candidates must have a substantial capacity to organize, lead, and work well with others. Leaders will receive a stipend in addition to having all expenses paid during travel. They are responsible for their own health insurance, and should be certified in basic first aid. Leaders must be present at an Orientation in Putney, Vermont during the week of June 13-18, 2005.
If you are excited about the prospect of helping students learn about a different culture this summer, email, fax or mail a resume and cover letter outlining your experiences in language, travel, community service, working with young people, and leadership.
