We start life full of wonder and curiosity about the world around us. For some gifted students that spirit of inquiry withers in a traditional classroom education. At Realms of Inquiry we dispense with rigid learning models in favor of working with each student to design a personalized curriculum. We encourage students to follow their curiosity by asking questions, testing assumptions, and experimenting with ideas. At the same time, we challenge students to look beyond themselves and work with others to apply what they’ve learned to “real world” situations, with the goal of contributing to the Realms community and the world beyond our campus.
While Realms offers a sound educational foundation that prepares students for college work, we offer students much more: opportunities to take risks, test their limits and achieve things they never dreamed possible. A Realms education includes innovative classroom projects, engaging internships and other hands-on experiences, rugged outdoor adventures, and horizon-expanding international travel – all designed by the students themselves, in close collaboration with experienced and dedicated teachers. Through these life-changing experiences, students realize the value of confronting fears and uncertainties and learning from mistakes — all within a supportive community that fosters deep lifelong friendships amongst students and their teachers.
The end goal of a Realms education is to impart not only essential facts, figures and formulas, but more importantly, the necessary tools for a meaningful life: a love of learning, a sense of community, independent thinking, self-reliance, and the courage and confidence to follow one’s interests and passions.
