Sertoma Camp Endeavor, Inc.

Updated: June 27, 2001

Sertoma Camp Endeavor is a tax exempt IRC Section 501 ( c) (3) non-profit summer camp that provides a highly motivating educational program in a recreational setting for deaf and hard of hearing children 8 through 16 years of age.

We can accommodate 64 children and 30 counselors per week in three cabins and an air conditioned 8000 square foot cafetorium building in a wooded setting in Dundee Florida. Our program is unique in that it integrates deaf children with deaf counselors who are successful in their adult college or work day lives. Many deaf or hard of hearing campers have never associated with someone who shares their special needs, and who is an independent and successful adult who can demonstrate this independence to the campers. Because Sertoma Camp Endeavor provides a highly motivating educational program in a recreational setting, children are referred to our camp by the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, as well as from the Coordinators of Exceptional students in 97 public school districts throughout the state.

The camp also provides opportunities for vocational training by offering employment for hearing young adults, who learn how to function in the world of work in the fields of institutional cooking, kitchen management, and grounds management. HRS refers students to us through their Vocational Rehabilitation Program Many deaf or hard of hearing campers have never associated with someone who shares their handicap, and who is an independent and successful adult. At Sertoma Camp Endeavor hearing impaired camp counselors comprise approximately 70% of camp staff, and serve as positive role models for the campers. Additionally, we are a training program for future educators of the deaf from colleges across the country such as; Gallaudet University, Washington DC; Western Maryland College; Lenoir-Rhyne College, Hickory NC; and others. The special needs of deaf and hard of hearing children will continue.

Please contact us if your child is interested in attending Summer Camp with us.
