Sierra Outdoor School Description
Location: Sierra Outdoor School is located in the Stanislaus National Forest at an elevation of 4100’ in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The nearest towns are Sonora and Columbia.
Program: SOS is a residential school, running programs from Monday to Friday with groups staying on site for one to five days. Elementary programs focus on environmental science, outdoor adventure, team building, and gold rush history. Intermediate and high school programs focus on leadership, teambuilding, and adventure education. Most classes take place in the surrounding mixed-conifer forest but field trips to the giant sequoia forests of Big Trees State Park, local caverns, or Columbia Historic State Park also provide rich educational experiences.
We are an outdoor education program located in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of California. We serve elementary, junior high and high school students from Central California. School groups of 4th-6th grade students come for 1-5 day residential outdoor education programs, focusing on environmental science, outdoor adventure, team building, and gold rush history. The surrounding mixed-conifer forest is the primary classroom. The giant sequoia forests, local caverns and Columbia Historic State Park also provide rich educational experiences.
