Tanglewood is a program of the University
of Maine Cooperative
Extension that teaches Maine
youth and adults to be effective and caring citizens of the earth through
affordable environmental education and nature-based experiences.
Program sites include: Blueberry Cove
in Tenant’s Harbor and Tanglewood Camp in Lincolnville. Come learn and explore within 840 forested acres of CamdenHillsState Park
(Lincolnville) and 25 seaside acres in Tenant’s Harbor. Tanglewood Camp is
American Camp Association accredited.
Summer programs emphasize
community living, respect for others, fun, safety, responsibility, and the joy
of being a part of the natural world. Residential Camp offers electives
in ecology, arts, swimming, music, sustainability, field fames, gardening,
canoeing, and hiking. Outdoor Discovery Programs offer backpacking,
island camping, canoeing, and natural history. Leadership Development
Programs are designed to provide teenagers with knowledge and skills in
communication, decision making, group building, camping, problem solving,
understanding diversity, and sustainable living. Tanglewood is a place
for young people to get outside, unplugged, and back to the best of things in
life–friendships, fresh air, discovery, self-confidence, and a sense of
belonging.
Earth Connections School
Programs take place during spring, fall, and winter seasons and immerse
students in a variety of fun-filled, discovery-oriented adventures in the
outdoors. Activities take place in small study groups of 8-12
students. Experienced teachers guide each group on learning explorations
through the ecosystem.
