The Outdoor Recreation Program at UVSC is committed to providing a wide range of theory and hard skills courses in order to provide classes to complete a four-year emphasis and to provide a two-year transfer program for those wishing to pursue a degree at other universities in the region.
The Integrated Studies bachelor of arts with an emphasis in Outdoor Leadership prepares students for professional leadership roles in wilderness therapy programs, corporate adventure consulting, guiding, private and/or commercial adventure outfitters, federal, state, and municipal recreation agencies, adventure camps, outdoor education and interpretation, recreation nonprofits and religious affiliated agencies.
Within twenty minutes of campus, the Wasatch Front provides opportunities for nearly every mode of adventure recreation. Thus, the Outdoor Recreation Program is able to offer one of the most extensive hard skills curriculums in the nation. The opportunities for internships with commercial ski, mountaineering, whitewater outfitters, and wilderness therapy programs is exceptional in the region. Despite the excellence in hard skills, the scholarship and academic expectations of the program are competitive and seniors are closely guided through the process of writing a thesis.
