What is W.E.U. Inc. ?
A Statement of Goals
Background
By utilizing the out-of-doors as our primary teaching medium, we provide a challenging program in a safe, supportive atmosphere. Based on our premise that it is not enough to talk, read or show pictures, we emphasize the importance of an actual outdoor experience whether it is catching a snowflake, scaling a rock wall, making a friend, riding the water, sharing feelings of fear and success or just watching a deer drink from a mountain stream.
Integrity, honesty, responsibility, compassion and love all flow from those who feel good about themselves. We allow each of our program participants the opportunity to understand and express what they are doing and how they feel about it and then add activities that allow them to translate experiences into action in their own lives. They can then build an appreciation of their own value and begin to work toward self-fulfillment through an on going sense of accomplishment.
Develop and development are active words – active concepts. All W.E.U. programs incorporate the fundamental principles of recreation and education. Our program participants are provided the opportunity to develop their own potential by challenging themselves mentally, physically and spiritually.
We believe that everyone has the right to:
1. Experience the natural Wilderness to its fullest extent.
2. Learn through sight, sound, touch and smell.
3. Receive affection, caring and understanding.
4. Ask questions and have them answered honestly and fairly.
5. Speak their own thoughts in their own way.
6. Love and be loved.
7. Accept defeat without humiliation in a safe, supportive atmosphere.
8. Feel and share the thrill of success.
9. Take pride in themselves.
10. The opportunity to learn to share and trust through group cooperation.
AND to enjoy these rights regardless of race, color, sex, religion, national or social origin pr physical or mental limitations.
