Cheerio Adventures is a YMCA tripping camp. During the summer, Cheerio Adventures offers adventure tripping camp programs for youth, teens, and youth groups. Adventures include rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, canoeing, rafting, backpacking, caving (spelunking), sailing, wind surfing, and mountain biking. Single and multiple activity summer camp programs are available. Adventure locations include NC, VA, WV, and TN, varying in location from the mountains to the sea. Each participant has the opportunity to experience the excitement, beauty, and self-fulfillment from each trip. Working together in small groups, participants learn how to work as a team while learning the skills necessary for their experience. More importantly, they have the opportunity to learn more about themselves and their capabilities. The emphasis is on the individual participant; a 6:1 participant to staff ratio is maintained so that each participant receives the personal attention needed to develop to their fullest potential.
During the Fall, both private schools and public schools come to Camp Cheerio for an outdoor adventure educational experience for students and staff. Elementary school, middle school, junior high school and high school age students experience and learn team building skills, cooperation, getting to know each other better, and a higher self-esteem. Schools come from North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and other neighboring states.
Cheerio Adventures is dedicated to preserving our natural environment. Teaching participants more about the world in which we live – and our relationship to it – is an important aspect of our courses. To this end, we teach minimum impact camping techniques and living skills, and share ideas on how we can reduce man’s impact on the environment in our day-to-day lives.
