Keynote presentation at the April 2016 Outdoor Orientation Program Symposium by Karen Warren Ph.D. from Hampshire College

One of the most pressing issues for outdoor education in the United States is expanding the diversity of participation. A report by the Outdoor Foundation found that 73 percent of Americans who participated in outdoor activities in 2014 were white. A National Park Service study of 2008-09 park visitors found they were disproportionately white and that visitation by minorities had not changed much since a 2000 survey.1

Karen Warren explores some of the practical aspects of what outdoor leaders must do to create an environment that supports Social Justice and Inclusion.
