For generations, the Drin River has sustained a way of life, feeding families, shaping culture, and nurturing one of Europe’s most vital ecosystems. Stop Skavica – Save Drin River follows the people of Dibra, Albania, as they stand against the proposed Skavica Hydropower Project—a dam that would drown villages, displace more than 20,000 residents and silence the final free-flowing stretch of the Black Drin. Told through the voices of residents and local activists, the film is a portrait of people rooted as deeply as the land they fight to protect. As pressure mounts and the future of the valley hangs in the balance, their message is clear: rivers are worth more than the power they could produce. “Without rivers, there will be no humanity.” – Activist, Group of Rural Activists of Dibra – Produced by the Free Rivers Fund, in partnership with NRS, to highlight the work supported by the Free Rivers Fund Grant Project.
