The American Avalanche Institute begain teaching avalanche awareness and hazard evaluation courses in 1974. Since then courses have been held across the Rocky Mountain region. From the very beginning AAI instructors have been chosen for their experience in working with snow and avalanches. Over 8,000 outdoor enthusiasts and professionals have attended AAI courses.
