Bluebird Backcountry Ski Area

Bluebird Backcountry Ski Area

Updated: November 21, 2021

Bluebird Backcountry is the first and only fully human-powered, inbounds backcountry ski area in the country. We’ve combined the best elements of ski areas, guide services, and the true backcountry. People love Bluebird for its great ski-patrolled terrain, backcountry rentals and lessons, lodge and warming hut — and most of all our super welcoming vibe.

With a mission to make backcountry skiing safer and easier to learn, our operation features a 1,200-acre avalanche-evaluated and ski-patrolled area with zero chairlifts.  Skiers and snowboarders make their way uphill under their own power following pre-set skin tracks. Instructors and guides are on hand for backcountry and avalanche education. And then there’s the fun part: ripping skins and skiing or riding back to the base.

Bluebird Backcountry is located on the Continental Divide in Colorado, halfway between Kremmling and Steamboat Springs. Our team has a welcoming, energetic, get-it-done culture. We are excited to introduce a new way to think about skiing… and to see just how far we can take the Bluebird Backcountry concept.
