A non-profit employment and training company that facilitates both state and private programs in the state of Wisconsin. Crex Meadows Conservation Camp is a service we offer to high school youth interested in working in an environmental science career or youth looking to have that “first job”. We team with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to provide valuable and educational work experiences during a three week session. Evenings and weekends are spent doing outdoor education activities.
Located on 30,000 acres of state wildlife refuge land, Crex Meadows Conservation Camp is a unique opportunity to see the northwoods of Wisconsin! Camp Counselors are responsible for the supervision of twenty high-school aged youth in a residential summer youth conservation camp. Counselors teach positive work ethics and skills to youth. Counselors motivate participants to appreciate the importance of conservation work, and work with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on projects. Examples of such projects are trail brushing, habitat restoration, Canada Goose round-ups, and litter patrol. Counselors work alongside youth Monday through Friday and are responsible for planning evening and weekend activities that have an outdoor/environmental education theme. There are numerous state forests, hiking trails, the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area, Lake Superior, Isle Royale, and camping opportunities available for off-work hour entertainment. Counselors are responsible for the safety of each participant and will reside in the camp bunkhouses during their shift. There are private cabins available for non-work hours. Counselors will serve as mentors for the youth and adhere to rules and regulations. Work is accomplished as part of a team consisting of four counselors, a camp director, and Wisconsin DNR personnel.
