About us…
Mountain Workshop (MW) has been providing outdoor and experiential education programming to schools in the New York Metropolitan Area since 1981. Over the past 40 years we have reached approximately 150,000 students with programs designed to promote a more positive school climate as well as help individual students expand their personal comfort zones.
Our Mission…
To help school populations understand the importance of diversity, tolerance, empathy and collaboration. To help student groups manage through change, practice inclusion and recognize the power of team. To help individuals find the courage to embrace their individuality and authenticity, to become more resilient, to strive to be both confident leaders and thoughtful followers in their school populations. Finally, we strive to start a conversation about these values and characteristics that continues within the school community after our programs end.
Our Programs…
MW programs are available for students in grades 4 through 12, but our primary focus is on middle school when students seemed to be challenged for the first time to manage real change academically as well as socially all while entering and navigating through adolescence. We believe that intervention at this point in their development helps ensure a smoother transition into a more rigorous academic environment as well as provide students with some of the essential personal and social strategies and tactics they will need to not only be more resilient to the pressures presented by their peer groups, but also to develop into productive and civically minded young adults. Our curriculum is graduated for age and grade levels and is presented in a combination of experiential and adventure education models.
Our staff…
Our Program Staff are the backbone of the MW service offering and responsible for our 95+ % school partner retention rate. While we have developed and refined an effective experiential learning curriculum, its value to school populations is directly related to the commitment of our facilitators and the quality of their work.
