“Small school. Big outdoors.” is the mantra of White Mountain School, a private, non-profit college preparatory boarding school. Our mission is to prepare students for rigorous college studies and for life beyond formal academics by helping them learn who they are, how they contribute to their communities and how they can become responsible citizens of our changing planet.
We are a community of 110 students and 45 adults nestled at the edge of the White Mountain National Forest.
The outdoors is integrated into our program in several key ways: First, our daily sports program (depending on season) consists of indoor and outdoor climbing (we have one of the finest indoor climbing gyms in the East,) mountain biking, flat & whitewater paddling, backcountry skiing & riding, x-c skiing, recreational skiing and snowboarding. We offer these along with two team sports–soccer and lacrosse. Second, four times each year our entire faculty and student body leave campus for 3-4 day wilderness and/or community service trips.
Our academic program is college preparatory. Our students currently attend colleges such as Mt. Holyoke, Smith, Vassar, Bryn Mawr, Dartmouth, Gilford,
Earlham, Colorado, Whitman and many other fine (small)
colleges and universities.
