YMCA Camp Surf is one of three camps owned and operated by the YMCA of San Diego County. Located just south of San Diego, on roughly 45 acres of ocean front property, Camp Surf plays host to a variety of programs. Some of those programs include Outdoor Education, Leadership Development, Weekend Group Retreats, Summer Resident Camp, and Day Camps. Our waterfront features ocean sports, surfing, body boarding, beach volleyball, swimming and more. Campers also visit the archery range, shoot some hoops, play horseshoes, and make projects at Arts & Crafts. A great mix of aquatic and land based activities are available for everyone to enjoy. For Outdoor Education Classes, students are immersed in the coastal marine environment. They practice investigative skills and learn about wetlands, intertidal life, beach formation, shore ecology, and more. An interactive marine sciences lab provides living examples of local wildlife. The combination of field experience, observation, and discussion facilitates effective learning. Classes are based on the California State Science Frameworks and complement school cirricula. In partnership with school faculty, our staff lead activities that focus on communication, teamwork, trust, and group dynamics. We use group games, problem-solving initiatives, low ropes, and our 30 foot climbing tower to compliment the students training and goals.
