Once a thriving ecosystem, Owen’s Lake was famously drained in the early 20th century to quench the thirst of a growing Los Angeles, leaving behind a cautionary tale of ecological collapse.

Now, as California begins the monumental task of returning water to the basin, the Owens River is coming back to life. Alongside Andrea Jones, Vice President of the National Audubon Society, California, anglers and activists Bernard Yin and Rebecca Ramirez explore these newly fishable waters to witness the resilience of nature firsthand and to ask what lessons we can learn from one of California’s largest environmental mistakes.
